Beats By Dr. House

You may know him as Dr. Gregory House from House M.D., an enthralling television series about a genius diagnostician who solves difficult medical cases with his team of trusty but sassy doctors. What you may not know is that Dr. House is in a band! British native Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band perform blues music, a healthy blend of the classic style with a unique twist.

His debut album, Let Them Talk, focused on sounds recovered from the blues scene of New Orleans. His latest album, Didn’t It Rain, parts from that Southern sound and travels to the heart of America by incorporating genres such as jazz, R&B, and tango. Songs representing that influence included Changes and The St. Louis Blues from his most recent album. Although he has not released new music since then, he toured in the summer of 2014 with the Copper Bottom Band around Europe, playing to eager crowds and delighting them with his playful persona.

The good vibes are hypnotizing, and seeing him on the show versus in a band is quite a pleasant surprise. His bitter character on House M.D. is a huge leap from his actual demeanor and the ambience his music creates. While his character on the hit show is known for being aloof and disconnected, his performances show a different side. His easy-going attitude and the obvious pleasure he gets from being on stage is infectious, creating a wonderful atmosphere at his shows.
