Maren Morris - My Church

“…But I find holy redemption, When I put this car in drive, Roll the windows down and turn up the dial,” …from the beginning of Maren Morris’ hit single “My Church.” “My Church” is the first single from the album “Hero,” her first debut album for major record label, Columbia Nashville. The song rose to #1 on Billboard’s Country Music Charts after its release on January 19, 2016. The New York Times has called it an “outstanding country music debut,” and MusicRow Magazine named her “Songwriter of the Year.” As an artist, Maren Morris has been described as having “sheer talent, honest lyrics and a completely magnetic presence.”

Originally from Arlington, Texas, this 26-year-old budding singer and songwriter started singing karaoke at the age of 10 wowing listeners at parties hosted by her parents who owned a hair salon in their hometown. Her father gave her a guitar when she turned 12, and before long, she began singing in bars and clubs around the Texas circuit. In an interview on July 2, 2016 with CBS Sunday Morning, Morris indicated she took a break from performing to focus on her love of songwriting, and really saw herself as a songwriter more. At the age of 20, Maren moved to Nashville to pursue and focus on her songwriting craft, and within the first six months, landed cuts for Tim McGraw and Kelly Clarkson. Making a name for herself as a songwriter, she scored performances opening for Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, Loretta Lynn and Chris Stapleton.

Morris had the idea for “My Church” while in Santa Monica, CA where she said she had an epiphany about what the whole experience of music is like for her. After writing the song that just came to her so organically, she realized it was something she wanted to sing herself, as it was really representative of who she was. That was the defining moment of Morris’ career, the turning point that has already plummeted her to what seems like the very place she belongs, singing and performing the very art she creates.
